About Us

Our Story

Melisa foundation was founded in the year 2014 and its objective was to reach out to the unreached to empower and Touch a life as it impact positively to the vulnerable women, youth and children. Kitale is an agricultural town and its environs is surrounded by very poor people. We have two major slums that are densely populated. After a baseline survey we found out that women, youth and children live in very bad environment. Our team went to a slum called “Kipsongo” which is just adjacent to the Kitale National Polytechnic and our finding were that; there are many cases of single parenthood(single mothers) it extended the survey to parts of Matisi and Tuwan and the cases were similar. Melisa organization also covers marginalized areas namely Pokot south, Pokot East and Baringo and most parts in Elgeyo Marakwet. These areas have cultures which undermine development and transformation e.g. FGM and cattle rustling this has caused a lot of unrest in the named counties. Melisa as an organization sought to seek mitigation and workable formula to curb this menace through the following activities;

  • Building houses for the widows
  • Rescue centres and clinics
  • One vocational training centre in trans Nzoia county
  • Financial empowerment for widows who want to venture in small scale enterprises
  • Rack recycling centre
